Tinsel & Tine Introduces

ACME Executive Chef Jeff Anderson

with some Tips & Recipes for the Holiday Season

Results recorded as of 12/1/2016. Post reach increased during 30 day campaign

I'm super excited to announce Tinsel & Tine's sponsored association with ACME Markets, as I am an avid ACME Shopper! When I lived in Mount Airy, I frequented both the ACME on Ridge Ave (5927-59 Ridge Ave.Philadelphia, PA 19128) and the ACME on Germantown Ave. (7010 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19119). Now that I'm in West Philly, I shop at the ACME on City Ave.(121 East City Avenue Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004) or on occasion, the ACME in South Philly (1400 E Passyunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19147). Started a new job this week in NoLib and went to ACME on Girard Ave. (180 W Girard Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19123) to get their fresh baked fried chicken as my offering for an employee potluck. No matter the store location, I'm always really pleased with the selection, freshness, great deals and the bakery! SEE FULL POST

I met Demond Mullen at the 2015 Mt. Airy Street Fair "Sip, Savor, Stroll" where we got to sample his succulent pulled pork, savory wings and sweet cornbread. Demond contacted me to let me know his sought after BBQ Rub Sweeet Heat is now available on the market, and since we haven't had a foodie giveaway in a while, I thought let's raffle off a bottle to T&T Subscribers & Visitors who enjoy being a weekend backyard BBQ Chef.

STREETSIDE BBQ is owned and operated by Demond Mullen. Born in Georgia, Demond spent his formative years there, where he was deep rooted in southern tradition and hospitality. Demond dates his interest in smoking and cooking back to his early childhood when his father used to smoke meat for the family. What began as a genuine enjoyment of the food quickly grew into a curiosity as to how the meat is smoked to perfection each time. STREETSIDE BBQ is the vehicle through which Demond combines this powerful emotional connection and timeless tradition that fuels his love for smoking together with the sincere satisfaction that he derives from bringing a little “down-home” delight to the Mid-Atlantic.

T&T's January Giveaway Contest features a Taste of Philadelphia History -
Win a 12 Pack of Old Original Levis
Champ Cherry Soda!
In 1895 Abe Levis founded Philadelphia's famous hot dog emporium, Old Original Levis on 6th Street and offered a popular cherry soda called "Champagne Cherry".  In 1950 the Phillies won the National League Championship! So Abe, an avid Phillies fan, celebrated his beloved team by changing the name of his soda to Champ Cherry, which made it even more popular.
Today, visionary soft drink guru, Elliott Hirsh, and his Amazing Beverages company brought back this iconic drink for fun, refreshment, and with the hope that the Phillies will win yet another championship. "Think Champ! Drink Champ!"
Use the Rafflecopter link below to enter to win a 12 pack of historic Champ Cherry Soda delivered to your door!

This month's Foodie Feature... ROCKY'S HOT SAUCE

I met Ben of Rocky's Hot Sauce at the Philly Cheesesteak Festival (click for Event RECAP) where he gave me a 5 pack of Hot Sauces to offer as a contest giveaway!

Rocky's Hot Sauce is available in stores here and around the country (click HERE for list of stores) but it's made in Glenside PA, not far from where I grew up! It's a real family run business consisting of Ben, his wife Roberta, his sister Becky and their parents, all handling different ends of production.

I asked Ben what his background was in the food industry before starting Rocky's 4 years ago. And he answered, "I am a food fanatic. I worked for Whole Foods for several years and for some time now my favorite hobby has been checking out the amazing food that Philadelphia has to offer. Some of my favorite restaurants include Zahav, Amada, and Han Dynasty."

Lean more about the Origins of Rocky's Hot Sauce

 Flavor Descriptions:

Original - Our take on a classic wing sauce pepped up with a bit more heat and definitely more flavor than your typical restaurant style Buffalo sauce. You can taste just a hint of sweet and citrus.

Lime - Our Lime hot sauce is fantastic with seafood and Mexican fare. Itis also great with alcohol! Add some to a Bloody Mary or a Corona for a new and interesting experience.

Taco - It tastes just like it sounds. There is no other way to describe this one other than "it tastes like you're eating a taco." Try replacing your typical powdered taco seasoning with this sauce.

Garlic - Our best seller! If you or someone you know loves garlic and heat this is the perfect condiment for you. While all of our sauces have a little garlic in them this sauce has 7x more than any other. Try it with Pizza or mix it in to a marinara sauce for some zip.

Bacon - Our newest release! A little sweet, a little smokey. Very Bacon-y. This sauce is a little milder than the others which we think really helps the Bacon flavor show through. Try it on Mac n Cheese.

We may have put away our grills for the winter, but hot sauce is not just for wings anymore, perfect to add flavor to sauces, on omelets, in chili and so much more...

NOTE: This contest is only for Philly/New Jersey entries, as the gift box has to be hand delivered

POST UPDATE: 12/2/15

26th Annual PHILADELPHIA FILM FESTIVAL Coverage (Oct 19-29, 2017)

Tinsel & Tine's Look at : The 26th Annual PHILADELPHIA Film Festival By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor POST UPDATE 11/1/2018:  ...

Food n Film: BURNT

Food n Film: BURNT
Bradley Cooper has more than charisma, he has an over abundance of Chi, which radiates out from him; so for me, this role as temperamental and damaged chef Adam Jones, who also inspires great love and admiration from those around him, works on the level of characterization. In fact, I think he's among a very short list of actors who would be able to pull off being so self-involved and yet likable. Doesn't hurt that he really speaks French too! READ POST

Food n Film: CHEF

Food n Film: CHEF
Much of the movie centers around the father/son relationship, and how much they learn from each other. But the real star of the film is all the food preparation, every other scene made me groan with want of everything up on that screen! Particularly the perfectly roasted and rubbed brisket, the crispy fat of the pork belly, sizzling bacon and the much ballyhooed Chocolate Lava Cake. READ POST

Food n Film: JULIE & JULIA
Personally, I like the unevenness of it, because I fell in love with the post World War II, Parisian sights, sounds, food and romance between Julia and Paul. I always felt a bit jarred back into reality when the scenes returned to Julie's meltdowns and cramped kitchen.READ POST

Six months into my 38th year of this life, I had my first panic attack. I didn't know that's what it was until months later. Symptom after symptom starting piling up on me until there were days I could no longer move my arms or neck. The doctors told me I was suffering from an auto-immune condition that they felt was most likely Lupus. And so began my much deeper journey and exploration into the world of spirit, alternative medicine, yoga, meditation and Eat, Pray, Love. READ POST

About This Blog

is about discovering what I find pleasing in screening & eating - in case you missed it, the name is a play on Tinseltown using the Tines of a Fork.

Feel free to send me info on a film or new restaurant you'd like me to highlight.

Will there ever be a cap on movie prices?

Will we one day pay $20 a pop?

Why don't we pay on a scale?

A crap movie like everything Adam Sandler has ever done should cost about $4.50.
Big action movies like"Lord of the Rings", "Iron Man," "Transformers" are worth $10.
Woody Allen movie or something like "Silver Linings Playbook" $6-$7.
A chick flick or light comedy $5.75 and most Indie Films $5.25.

You could even do it by seasons - all summer block busters from May to August - $10
Sept - November 15th $3.50 - $4
Back to $10 for Thanksgiving and Christmas etc...

Or you can do it by A Actors ($9 - $10), B Actors ($6 - $7) TV actors on the big screen ($3.50 - $4)

Surely I'm not the first person to realize this makes sense. Has it been voted on in the Motion Picture Industry and then vetoed? If so, why?
