P-Star Rising followed by a free performance by P-Star! Tuesday, November 10, 7pm
Piazza @ Schmidt's (2nd and Hancock, Northern Liberties)
Free, Open to the Public
P-Star is the stage name of 13 year-old hip hop artist Priscilla Star Diaz; the documentary follows her career from the age of 9, guided by her father former hip-hop star Jesse Diaz. "P-Star," sets out on the road to fame and fortune, hoping to make it in the music biz. Drawing on inspiration from her own life - her mother's drug addition, her father's pressure for her to be the main family breadwinner - P-Star builds an energetically powerful and inspired body of music that just might earn her a place at the top.
Sounds like an Urban Miley Cyrus. It would appear this young diva and her Papa are so sure of her rise to fame that they're not waiting for VH1, and have created their own Behind the Music.
P-Star will be in attendance to perform a few tracks after the film!
I unfortunately have a conflict and can't attend this screening, so if you go, please be sure to write in your SMPT review on Wednesday. And most importantly, help brighten a child's holiday, The Salvation Army's Toy Drive Donation Box will be available in the Piazza for the duration of this event.
Being as this is an outdoor screening - you may also want to take along a thermos of hot chocolate or flask of your choice!
