Philly Restaurant Review- CHIFA

Chifa on Urbanspoon

I'm back to Internet dating. Say what you will about the process, true, it will never be the romantic, meet cute, seen across a crowded room, introduction that we all crave. However, it's always more than nice to be taken out for Lunch or Dinner and to make a new un-crazy acquaintance. My cyber swain earn quick points by allowing me to choose the restaurant. Since its opening this winter, I've been dying to try CHIFA. Chef Jose Garces (Amada, Tinto and Distrito) restaurant, named after the unique hybrid of Peruvian and Cantonese cuisines found in Peru.

Ambiance - Understated "hybrid" chic. Wooden shutters over blue & white tile, a subtle bar and blue and white porcelain vases decorate the first dining section. Red walls, Ceviche throne and Asian lattice booths in the second dining section. This section also caterers to large parties - banquettes and porcelain lazy susans adorn larger tables.

Bread on the table? - No! and I really could have used some while I was waiting for my dining companion to find parking. Plus, my meal was very spicy, some bread would have evened out the heat.

What I ate - Lunch Express: 2 courses for $18 (includes a non-alcoholic beverage). The restaurant specializes in creative Ceviche choices, however, I was too hungry for such light fare. The Jumbo Lump Crab Empanda with sweet chile reduction was nicely filled, but still rather small.
2nd course Red Curry Del General bowl of coconut, jasmin rice, tofu, machas, crab and eggplant, the coloring is akin to a vodka cream sauce. Sounds like quite a mix and it was! Fabulously spicy, not so it loses its flavor in the least, your first two bites will make you think you can't handle it, then, it all settles on the tongue nicely.

What He ate - Chicken Wings with soy lime glaze not what we expected - Sort of rounded in shape with the chicken stuff back into the skin. A little oily, not bad, but not a must try.
2nd course Shrimp Noodle Bowl flat noodle, rocoto cream, bacon, shrimp parmesan, green peas. I plan to return for this dish. I loved the denseness of the noodle and the
alfredo type sauce. He didn't seem to care for it much, green peas too firm for his taste, not into cheesier dishes.

Service- Excellent!


Bathrooms- Stone work walls, but otherwise ordinary decor, single (unisex) , good size, clean
.

Note -
He's looking for friendship, which I knew going in, good conversationalist, nice company.
As far as Chifa is concerned. I look forward to their dinner menu!

But the real star of the film is all the food preparation, every other scene made me groan with want of everything up on that screen! Will there ever be a cap on movie prices?

Will we one day pay $20 a pop?

Why don't we pay on a scale?

A crap movie like everything Adam Sandler has ever done should cost about $4.50.
Big action movies like"Lord of the Rings", "Iron Man," "Transformers" are worth $10.
Woody Allen movie or something like "Silver Linings Playbook" $6-$7.
A chick flick or light comedy $5.75 and most Indie Films $5.25.

You could even do it by seasons - all summer block busters from May to August - $10
Sept - November 15th $3.50 - $4
Back to $10 for Thanksgiving and Christmas etc...

Or you can do it by A Actors ($9 - $10), B Actors ($6 - $7) TV actors on the big screen ($3.50 - $4)

Surely I'm not the first person to realize this makes sense. Has it been voted on in the Motion Picture Industry and then vetoed? If so, why?
